March 17th is a day that holds double significance for UGI Energy Services – not only do we celebrate all things green, but we also commemorate our company anniversary!
UGI Energy Services was established in 1995, separating from UGI Utilities, and this year marks 29 years in the Energy Marketing & Midstream business! Happy Birthday to us! 😊🎉🎈🎂
This year has been a whirlwind of activity as we began and completed several new projects spanning multiple states.
Last May, we proudly announced the completion of the new renewable electricity facility at Hytone Farms in partnership with Ag-Grid Energy. Located in Coventry, CT, this project is part of UGI's steadfast commitment to renewable energy.
As detailed in our press release, "The Hytone Ag-Grid facility is a dairy manure and food waste project that will generate power from biogas produced by the digester. Electricity will be sold to municipalities via virtual net metering through Eversource. The project is expected to produce up to 4,400,000 kWh per year." For further details, please visit Ag-Grid Energy's website, along with our press release/blog post and Twitter post.
In July, we broke ground for Synthica Energy, a new RNG facility. As outlined in our press release, "The food waste digester, Synthica St. Bernard, is Hamilton RNG’s first project of this kind. The digester is expected to be completed in late calendar 2024 and will process approximately 190,000 annual tons of food waste from food manufacturers in an anaerobic digester. Once completed, the project will have the capacity to generate approximately 250,000 MMBTUs (million BTUs) of pipeline-quality RNG annually. The RNG produced will be injected into a local natural gas pipeline on the regional distribution system." A timeline of this project in St. Bernard, OH, is included here.
Most recently, in February of this year, UGIES and LANTA (Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority), announced a biofuel agreement. This is a ‘first-in-Pennsylvania’ partnership to use Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) to power eighty-plus buses in LANTA’s fleet. Read more in our recent press release.
Beyond our projects, UGIES was recognized for our contributions to our communities. We were honored to receive the Greater Reading Chamber Association’s Business Excellence Award, recognizing the area’s most dynamic for-profit businesses and their contributions to the broader community’s success.
In the Fall of 2023, we had the pleasure of hosting energy industry colleagues from the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (GPAEE) to discuss energy market trends heading into the 2023-2024 heating season, as well as to tour the company’s Temple LNG facility. Revisit the day on our blog.
This is truly only a snapshot of the past 12 months. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our employees, customers, and community for their continued support over the past year. Whether through our various volunteer activities helping our community or our diverse array of company projects, your support has been invaluable.
