A deep commitment to community service is a cornerstone of UGI Energy Services' organizational culture. The United Way holds a special place in our hearts and is at the forefront of our community impact initiatives.
Each fall, we invite our employees to participate in our annual United Way campaign kick-off. Between September and October, several events bolster our fundraising efforts benefiting the United Way. Here's an inside look at some of these activities and how they contribute to our campaign's success year after year.
United Way Day of Caring – September 11, 2024
Employees joined the United Way team for various philanthropic activities throughout our community. The beautiful, sunny day provided the perfect setting for outdoor projects. Listed below are some of the volunteer activities in which our employees took part in, cleaning up facilities and areas in the community and providing support for key programs throughout the county and local schools.
Hawk Mountain
- Volunteers trimmed weeds, removed roof shingles, split firewood, cut brush, painted building exteriors, cleaned the dining hall, and installed a pool cover. The Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation serves over 1,300 youth members each summer offering them the opportunity to experience the beauty of the outdoors.
South Mountain YMCA
- It was a busy day at the YMCA with projects including wood splitting and camp clean up, pool clean up, mini golf clean up, weeding, planting, painting, wood cutting, and barn clean up. South Mountain YMCA serves over 8,500 individuals annually, providing camping experiences and programs that build leadership, character, and life skills.
18th Wonder
- Volunteers reset and cleaned up the Community Garden kids' play zone, adding new structures, removing broken wood chips, and adding new ones. They also painted stepping stones to create fun walkways. The 18th Wonder Improvement Association promotes a clean, connected, crime-free community.
Ready. Set. READ!
- Participants prepared books and materials for the upcoming school year's Ready.Set.Read! program. This United Way of Berks County initiative prepares children for school and boosts third-grade reading skills. Many of our employees serve as tutors for this rewarding program.
Community Circle Food Pantry
- Our Canonsburg office team volunteered at this Washington County pantry, packaging over 100 food boxes and serving 80 families. This humbling experience helped support a staple of the local community that has been feeding those in need for over 40 years.
UGIES Annual Charity Golf Outing – September 16, 2024
This year, our outing celebrated its ninth year on the links supporting the United Way of Berks County. Each year, we invite our vendors to support our local United Way by participating in this golf tournament.
Over the years, it has grown by leaps and bounds with the generosity and support of our vendor organizations. The day is spent at the Berkshire Country Club where supporters enjoy a day of golf, awards, and dinner. This day typically lines up with our kick-off of the campaign, so the spirit of giving and community is ever present throughout the event.
We love getting to spend the day with our vendors at an event that was created simply with one goal in mind – supporting the community where we live and work. Another wonderful event was had on the 16th, with a day of sunshine and comradery all around. We raised $100,750 for the United Way of Berks County! We look forward to seeing everyone again next year for our tenth outing!
UGI Annual Campaign Kick-Off Picnic – September 18, 2024
Our annual campaign kick-off picnic at our Wyomissing, PA home office featured guest speakers sharing their United Way connections and stories. We discussed campaign incentives and timelines, and employees assembled literacy kits for local children. The day concluded with a delicious picnic.
We thank all our employees and community members for their continuous support of the United Way!
