What is World Day for Safety and Health at Work?
The annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work is April 28. It aims to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases worldwide. The day raises awareness of workplace health and safety trends and encourages workplaces to promote and create a culture of safety and health to reduce work-related deaths and injuries.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 5,486 fatal work injuries in 2022 (up 5.7% from 2021) and 2.8 million injury and illness cases in 2022 (up 7.5% from 2021).
How UGI Energy Services contributes:
Maintaining a safe workplace is the responsibility of both employees and employers, with the majority falling on the employer. At UGI Energy Services, safety remains at the forefront of everything we do, from the initial planning stages through the construction and ongoing maintenance of our pipelines and facilities.
We ensure the safety of our pipelines, facilities, and employees by:
- Providing expertise backed by more than a century of experience in the energy industry.
- Preventing pipeline leaks by conducting routine site visits regularly.
- Investigating all unexpected incidents involving our employees, contractors, or pipeline systems and implementing corrective actions to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
- Vetting all contractors via a rigorous background check.
- Training our engineers in regulatory compliance, safe operation of facilities, and more.
- Conducting audits to ensure all our facilities operate according to industry standards and regulations.
- Managing any technical or personnel changes that affect our operations.
- Providing all personnel with a list of approved materials for the design/operation of our facilities.
- Identifying and evaluating assets at high risk for disturbance due to gravity, severe weather, seismic activity, and other natural conditions.
