Find me on:

On Monday, May 27th, we observe Memorial Day, a day which commemorates those individuals who have died in military service. Whether it be yourself, a family member, co-worker, or acquaintance, many of us have been touched by those previously or actively serving in the military. We strive to honor our Veterans throughout the year and look for opportunities to involve members of our organization and the community through volunteer events.

Our Veteran Employee Team (VET) employee resource group works to recruit and retain veteran employees while fostering a spirit of goodwill and generosity within our community. We recently organized a ticket raffle and t-shirt sale raising over $1000 for the Veterans Coalition of PA. There are many ways to get involved as an employee and/or member of the community. During this Military Appreciation Month, you can show your support in a few key ways:

  • Join your local VET Chapter https://www.va.gov/find-locations/
  • Wear R.E.D. (Remember Everyone Deployed)
  • Participate in a VET sponsored event or an event of your choice that supports and honors our military.
  • Engage online through social channels to show support and engage with members of the Veteran community.
  • Learn more from your colleagues and connections about their experiences in the military.

As Memorial Day approaches, members of our team have been busy at work throughout the community. Recently, UGI Energy Services and UGI Utilities employees participated in a volunteer event at the Veterans Coalition of Pennsylvania's (VCOP) Taft House - a transition home that will be used for veterans. There, employees moved furniture, pruned trees and bushes, mowed the lawn, weeded, organized the food pantry in the garage and swept and mopped the first floor. It was a great day to give back to the veteran community and VCOP is excited to begin using this space for veterans in the community.

On Saturday, May 18th, members of our team joined the community at the 2024-Armed Forces Day Parade in West Reading. According to Retired Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sgt. Ron Dorrell, “The Armed Forces Day Parade is the oldest and continuous parade in the country, and it has been 76 years in existence. Rain or shine the parade goes on with the help of volunteers.” The parade started at 8th and Penn and went to 3rd and up Spruce Street ending at the Reading Hospital.

On behalf of VET and UGI, we extend our gratitude for the unrelenting bravery and dedication of all who wear the uniform and honor the unwavering love and support of all who serve alongside them.
